Your Home (Act 1, Scene 12)

Act 1, Scene 12

FEDE

I told my parents on the phone. They didn’t ask much about Meli and reminded me not to get too distracted. It would be quite a while before I saw them in person again.

Anyways, it was official, we had “moved in” together and immediately and most naturally the problems started rearing their head.

The place was a mess, and no matter how much I tried tidying it up, the next time I came in the chaos would have come back in a new, innovative clutter which sometimes would predict Meli’s next style change and sometimes not. Furthermore, she had this insistence on knowing exactly how her head looked on the inside and I hardly knew what to tell her. ¿Were the stains on the marble painted more in the impressionist or expressionist manner? I’m sorry I couldn’t tell as I was cleaning them up.

Then you had the enigma of the sleeping schedule. ¿While one of us slept on a head the other one would just kill time on the streets? I tell you, we were a couple of smart kids, but when we joined forces we could add up to a big idiot.

Luckily, I’m a creature of habit; if I weren’t, the spaces inside the letters of this diary wouldn’t be filled in blue, right? I have always, with the exception of my 30s, gotten up at 06:00 in the morning. Meli, on the other hand, claimed with almost purple eyebags and the posture of a dissected gargoyle that “painting was her sleeping”. Therefore, I’d sleep in her head from 11:30 PM to 05:00 AM after which I’d get out and she would go in to get her sleep from 06:00 AM to 13:00 PM. She’d also nap from time to time outside.I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that for the entire first month of our situation I slept on a sofa in one of the halls instead of any of the myriad bedrooms. At the time it seemed too… bold? I guess I was still thinking of those beds as her beds.

For me, I’m not entirely clear on what “moving in” means…do they inhabit each others’ minds simultaneously? What is the relationship between their physical bodies and their minds? Is it like the Matrix, where the body is left somewhere and the mind is uploaded, or do they literally go all in to each others’ head? Take me there…you shrink to the size of a needle’s eye, a string in between the brain folds, pass through, see the other’s mind…what happens to the body of the mind that is transported? I would just make it more clear. Again, the more you can do to take me there, the stronger the story will be…I cannot see it as a play, so you have to take me there with words.
